From 2012 to 2017 Sascha Westerman was in charge for the development of a holistic Intermodal Traffic Management for the port of Hamburg. The core of the intermodal Management System has initially been the intelligent management of the road traffic. Some of the most important projects in this context were realized in the context of smartPORT logistics.

A key task was to make the transport infrastructure in the port more intelligent and to link them to the users.

Since 2017 Sascha Westermann is in charge of the Project Management Office (PMO) for the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Projects of the City of Hamburg. Hamburg is professionalizing its ITS activities and the PMO is coordinating the various ITS projects of the city. In this role, they ensure that the goals of the ITS Strategy of the city of Hamburg are achieved and the right projects are initiated. This includes the networking of the partners and the cooperation in terms of TM2.0 - Traffic Management Next Generation.

The ITS PMO is located at the Hamburger Hochbahn AG, the Public Transport Provider of the City of Hamburg. In this context he also cares about new ideas like Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and Urban Air Mobility.
