A Chartered Accountant by qualification, Ms. Sonal Desai is currently the General Manager -Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. She has over 28-years of varied experience in various leadership assignments in various positions in the Company in Finance, Refinery and Retail Division.
She joined Hindustan Petroleum Corporation in 1984 as an Accounts Officer in the Finance department. Subsequent travel along the career path helped her to gain vast experience in whole business of petroleum products through assignments in Field, Zone, Refinery and Headquarters The assignments in Audit and Business Process Reengineering provided insights into process aspects of the whole organization. The assignments in headquarters offices gave her deep insights into issues of corporate governance and risk management. This varied experience of handling pure finance, accounting, commercial and Project finance functions has given her the capability to conceptualize the BIG PICTURE of the organization and the Industry as a whole. The experience in leadership positions gave her a deep understanding of the changing role of finance in the contemporary business environment.
She has been invited to speak at international conferences on Risk Management and Frauds Summit. However her passion to work for Social causes made her change tracks to CSR. As General Manager-CSR she has contributed to the company's various CSR initiatives focusing on child care, health, education and literacy and Hindustan Petroleum Corpn.Ltd. has won many Indian and international awards in recognition of the CSR work.
