Mr. P. K. Ranganathan is a Special Director in Ashok Leyland Ltd., taking care of Audit and Assurance for Ashok Leyland and its group companies across the globe. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Cost Accountant, having been a member of both the professions since 1983.
He did his CA with Mr. N. C. Krishnan(late), past-President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
He has got close to 30 years of experiencein different facets in Ashok Leyland, the Commercial Vehicle conglomerate of the Hinduja Group, spanning from Internal Audit to Corporate Budgeting& Planning, Corporate Taxation, Corporate Finance & Accounting, Consolidation, Investor Relations, Business Analysis and Project Appraisal.
He was with M/s. SViswanathan, Chartered Accountants, Chennai, for about three years after qualifying CA and since 1985, he has been with Ashok Leyland in different capacities.
At Ashok Leyland, during his role as CFO (in 1997-98) of a Joint-Venture Group Company at SriLanka, he was primarily responsible for the financial and business re-engineering of the company and did it with success in collaboration with the Institutions and Government of SriLanka. While functioning as Head of Finance at Hosur Units of Ashok Leyland for 10 years (1998-2008), he led the transformation of Finance function from the role of Accountant to the role of Business Partner and led many business missions and initiatives.
From October 2011, he has been holding the function as Special Director – Audit & Assurance, in-charge of AL and Group Companies, except for a brief period of one year from Jan '12 to Dec '12 when he functioned as the Chief Financial Officer of Hinduja Foundries Ltd, an Associate Company and led the company in its financial and business transformation with success. He was awarded the Finance Leadership Award by Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad in Dec 2012 for his role as CFO in Hinduja Foundries Ltd.
Currently in his capacity as Special Director-Internal Audit of Ashok Leyland, his major objective is to provide Corporate Governance assurance on Ashok Leyland and its Associate/JV companies. He has also been active in bringing in technology driven audit tools to improve the effectiveness of internal audit function in the company. He has extensively travelled including countries like SriLanka, Thailand, Singapore, Germany UAE.
He has participated in many conferences and seminars across India and at Sri Lanka and presented papers in forums like ASSOCHAM, CII, FICCI and MMA. For a brief period, he was a visiting faculty in Bangalore Stock Exchange on knowledge sharing sessions relating to Finance.
He is interested in music and writing poems and spends pastime in reading books of professional interests. He and his wife are closely associated with the Chennai-based Charitable Organization "UDAVUM KARANGAL (Helping Hands)" for their activities at Bangalore. They have adopted two female children under "World Vision India" for their educational pursuits.
Mr. Ranganathan has been acknowledged as a good-trainer of people and has been effectively conducting and continuing an internal continuous education programme for Finance Executives of the company under the banner "Ashok Leyland – Finance Intensive Training (ALFIT)" since March 1996, which imparts training on contemporary topics for the Finance and related team members to get abreast with current knowledge and global developments.
Mr. Ranganathan has a working wife with two daughters pursuing career / college education.
